Portsmouth, Virginia – Diamond’s House Inc. was established in November 2009 in an effort to help eliminate homelessness and Domestic Violence. We are very proud to announce our First Annual Fashion Show Extravaganza bringing awareness to Domestic Violence at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on March 25, 2012.

This will be an incredible learning experience including an education platform, performing art skits, poetry, and inspirational songs surrounding the cause and effects of Domestic Violence.

Diamond’s House Inc, is currently growing by leaps and bounds in its quest to assure that all citizens are made aware of this growing epidemic, and to bring forth ways each of us can assist in bringing it to a stop.

Diamond’s House Inc. is an initiative to provide educational awareness and services to all citizens who have been impacted by Domestic Violence, which at many times leads to Homelessness.

Our goal is to impact the entire community in a way that assures each citizen is made fully aware of the available resources that are provided throughout the Hampton Roads area.

As a non-profit organization, Diamond’s House Inc., relies on volunteers like yourself, who desires to use your life and livelihood to make a difference in someone else’s life.

“PRINCE TO DIAMOND” MALE MENTORING PROGRAM

Diamond’s House will implement the “Prince to Diamond” male mentoring program in November 2011.

The mission and the goal of the Diamond’s House “Prince to Diamond” male mentoring program is  too empower and enlighten male youth to a positive future through education, sports, music, and the arts.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE

On Saturday, January 28, 2012 Diamond’s House will be hosting a Youth Empowerment Conference at The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Portsmouth, Virginia. 

Approximately, 150 boys and girls will be motivated, uplifted and empowered by some of the best speakers.

DIAMOND’S HOUSE COOKBOOK

Diamond’s House has decided to publish a cookbook.

This cookbook will be overflowing with the best recipes; from the best cooks from their community and across the US.

Yes, we are referring to you; please submit your recipes to DiamondHouse01@gmail.com (please put “Cookbook” in the subject line).

We would like you to send three or four of your favorite recipes as soon as possible. Please include your name and location.  We will then select one or more of your recipes to be included in our cookbook.

If you would like to list a recipe in memory of a loved one, please include “in loving memory of and the person’s name” and a few sentences about why this recipe is special to you. 

All profits from the sale of the cookbook will fund the programs at Diamond’s House. This 5.5″x 8.5″ cookbook, with plastic comb binding, will make a cherished keepsake on your kitchen shelf!

October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month…Diamond’s House will continue to bring awareness to this critical issue through the month of October and beyond.

Please join us in our Purple Ribbon Campaign.  The purple ribbon is used as a unifying symbol of courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending domestic violence.

Verbal and Emotional Abuse=Domestic Abuse

Let’s break the cycle of violence! Domestic Violence is definitely on the rise!  Domestic violence is a widespread social issue that affects thousands of people each year.  Domestic violence is something that affects every one of us in our community.  It doesn’t matter what your race, age, gender or religion is, or how much your yearly income is.  It does not discriminate!

Many people continue to believe that domestic violence is a private matter between a couple, rather than a criminal offense that merits a strong and swift response.  There is nothing further from the truth.

Silence is the batterer’s best friend.  And this has to change!  We all must do our part to help break the Silence and the break the cycle against this hideous crime towards other humans!

Things We Can Do When We Suspect Domestic Violence

• Neighbors must get involved and contact the police when they hear violent fights in their neighborhoods. Don’t turn up the television to block out the sounds of the drunken argument next door. Call the police.

• Teachers should be alert to signs that students have witnessed violence at home. Children who grow up in violent homes are more likely to become violent themselves.

• Medical professionals who see the victims of violence need to ask them about these crimes. Too often, doctors or emergency room personnel accept the statement of fearful victims that their bruises or cuts are the result of household accidents or falls. When a woman with a black eye says that she fell and hit the doorknob, doctors and nurses must ask: “Did someone hit you?”

• Members of the clergy need to become more involved as well. We just can’t tell a battered spouse to “go home and make it work,” as was done in the past. Sending a woman back to a battering husband often places her life at risk. Of course, we can’t tell a woman who lives in a violent relationship what to do, but we can make a greater effort to let her know that other options are available for her and her children. Early intervention is crucial.

These crimes are very serious. And experience shows that levels of violence in these relationships tend to escalate, many police departments cite domestic violence as their number one problem.

Tougher laws and effective prosecutions, combined with education and a cooperative approach among law enforcement and social service agencies, will take time to be effective. However, until then, we all must do our part and take a greater role in reporting domestic abuse. Our efforts to stop the violence and break the cycle can make a world of difference.
